The first open qualifying regional Championship World Skills Russia 2014 has officiallystarted in Novosibirsk. This championship is held in order to improve the image of highly skilled workperformed by people of blue-collar occupations as well as promote the achievements of occupational training organizations in the sphere of preparing competent, in-demand employees who meet modern standards of the manufacturing and the service sphere.
The opening ceremony featured Deputy Chairperson of the Russian Federation Government Olga Golodets.
‘Today we are at a very special event because World Skills Championships have been held in the world for more than 50 years. This movement has gained considerable momentum. And the Russian Federation is only making its first yet sure steps. We are currently negotiating with World Skills International discussing the options for conducting the next Championship here in Russia. Today’s event will let us show that we are not only able to win the right to conduct the Championship in Russia, but we can also achieve good results during the competition. Blue-collar occupations make up the essence of our life, they are the base for our economic development. Successful development of the economy depends on how much we are proud of our work, on how talented our people are at work. A good occupational training is today’s way to success. Nowadays the names of chefs are as famous as the names of great actors. That’s why I would like to wish success to everybody who is here with us today! Guys, you are talented! Being able to do your work well is a very special talent. However, reaching the top of professionalism takes a tremendous amount of labor. I wish success to everybody who came here in order to take part in the competition but only the strongest can win’, told Olga Golodets to the participants of the Championship.
