Engeneration-2014 – a Platform for Technical Creativity

The Novosibirsk Expo Centre International Exhibition Complex featured the Festival of Technical Creativity Engeneration-2014. This event became a unified platform of Siberia and the Far East for communication, business, education, and contests in the sphere of technical creativity.

Engeneration-2014 Festival also featured robotic engineering contests, robotronic sports contests, including the regional selective stage of WRO-2014 (students of schools and higher education institutions took part in the contest in certain age categories), and Exponenta – an exhibition of engineering creativity.       

The opening ceremony featured the President of the Russian Association of Education Robotronics Maksim Vasilyev.

‘The number of participants at this festival is astonishing. I’m glad I was able to arrive in the capital of Siberia, Novosibirsk, to visit this event that is so important for the engineering sphere of our country. It is quite symbolic that such contests are held in the scientific capital of Russia – Novosibirsk. I’m pleased to see that there are so many talented young people in the third largest city of Russia – they are the future of engineering and scientific elite. Robotic engineering is a very promising sphere. Those who are actively involved in these activities now will become successful in the nearest future. I hope that your interest in robotic engineering will contribute to your professional growth. I wish all the participants of the events good luck and new discoveries!’ said Maksim Vasilyev. Organizers of Engeneration-2014 prepared a special assistant robot for the opening ceremony, who helped cut the red ribbon. After this symbolic moment, the visitors of the event could enjoy the laser show, which touched the heart of every spectator.

All the contests featured children aged 6-18. All the participants of the events made autonomous robots programmed for certain activities: playing football, collecting garbage, moving objects, walking through labyrinths, and many more.   

The winners of Engeneration-2014 Festival will represent Novosibirsk atthe World Robot Competition to be held in the City of Kazan in June 2014. The winners of the Kazan event will represent Russia at the World Robot Olympiad, which will take place in Sochi in November 2014. The Olympiad will include participants from over 50 countries.     

According to Maksim Vasilyev, Russia has good chances for winning the World Olympiad, since Russian participants have been showing positive results at international competitions for the last couple of years.

‘The significance of such events as the robotic engineering festival is high. Lack of engineers is currently a huge problem in Russia. People finally got to understanding that there’s a great need for engineers. Engineers should be trained starting from their childhood years. Engeneration-2014 Festival contributes to improving professional training of specialists in the sphere of engineering. Such events teach children engineering creativity. I’m glad that this festival is held at the Novosibirsk Expo Centre International Exhibition Complex.’ It has all necessary capabilities for hosting such events’, Maksim Vasilyev said.
