This project addresses challenges and new approaches for forest management and forest fire fighting under changing Socio-Economic and Environmental Conditions and will be comprised of two complementary events.
International Congress on Forest Fire and Climate ChangeChallenges for Fire Management in Natural and Cultural Landscapes of Eurasia
Congress is organized in partnership with the Global Fire Monitoring Center (GFMC).
It will be hosted jointly by:
Federal Forest Agency ROSLESKHOZ
Ministry of Emergency Situations EMERCOM
Government of Novosibirsk Oblast
The congress will bring together the representatives of the science community, forest managers and land management authorities, the industry and representatives of civil protection and emergency services.
The outcomes of the Novosibirsk Congress in a form of practice-oriented recommendations will be forwarded to the UNECE/FAO Regional Forum on Transboundary Cooperation in Fire Management which will be held 28-29 November 2013 at the United Nations in Geneva.
1st International Exhibition for Forest Fire Fighting and Protection
Exhibition is co-organized by experienced exhibition companies Leipziger Messe International (Germany) and Siberia Expo (Russia, Novosibirsk)
The global significance of the topics to be covered by this project is beyond any doubt. Forest resources are the natural riches that serve as the source of oxygen on the Earth and are often referred to as its green lungs. Forests affect the global economy, providing people with timber and timber products, foods, medicinal and other material resources. Forest lands are a key factor for mitigating the impact of climate changes.
Russian forests have always been of primary importance as they occupy vast territories on the planet and absorb huge amount of carbon dioxide. The significance of forest protection in Russia has been emphasized many times in international conventions and protocols.
Meanwhile, deforestation has lately become a more serious and a more global problem. It can be caused by fires, a strong natural and anthropogenic factor that can change the forest condition and functioning significantly. Forest fires are highly detrimental to the economy and environment. In the countries where forests cover a vast territory wild fires may turn into a national problem. Post fire soil restoration is also a serious problem since natural soil recovery process may take tens of years. Technically effective methods of post fire soil restoration are of vital importance.
For the first time in Russia the organizers of the project Forest Fire Fighting Technologies. Ecology. Climate – 2013 aim to discuss such serious problems on global scale providing the same venue for the leading Russian and foreign experts, politicians, scientists, manufactures of firefighting equipment, and representatives of various international organizations. They will get a perfect opportunity to exchange experience in forestry and fire management and learn about state-of-the-art firefighting technologies and innovative equipment.
This event will be a significant contribution to the modernization of the nature protection complex and fire safety systems on the national and international level.
